In Search of Whale Sharks Phi Phi or Bust

This morning after awaking to mass tan moth genocide against my door and in the bathroom (I can't imagine what happened and should have taken pictures) I had "quite the breakfast" per Rick and company (I happen to love leftovers and pad thai and veggies are perfectly appropriate breakfast action) I headed out on a boat to the Phi Phi islands where I spent the day playing on the beach, swimming, watching tourists feed the monkeys under a "Please do not feed the wildlife sign" (I saw one monkey take a ridiculously aggressive swipe at one of these guys.), and snorkeling.

While snorkeling I kept wanting to pinch myself. I was snorkeling in Thailand!!! (with the most beautiful fish surrounding me). I am so fortunately be here and in life. It overwhelms me.

One white and pink and yellow fish kept charging me when I got to close to his part of the reef. I wonder what he or she was protecting. In this bay they have seen whale sharks before. We didn't see one today. Next time.

I was one of two people I saw snorkeling without a life jacket. When I got out of the water one of the guys said he couldn't believe that I was not afraid.  When I asked it turned out that most of the people couldn't swim which explains that for the 2 hours of snorkeling and swimming why a large portion of them didn't get off the boat or for that matter look at the water. I can't imagine how scared some of them must have been as rough as the sea was in the hour plus transit to our destinations.

Today convinced me I am going to get my dive certification (so watch out Conor). Also a special thanks to the Gouldings for the boating experience they have given me over the years.

Today was spectacular. All of the people I have met on this trip have told me I must go to Phi Phi and they were absolutely correct. It was more beautiful than I had imagined. Next time I am going to spend several days on Phi Phi (yes there will be a next time).
