Playa Brasilito and Playa Conchal
I spent several days in the last 6 at these 2 beaches, which was a nice change of pace. Playa Brasilito is a tiny little town that consistents of two convenient stores, a souvenir store that sells mostly crack pipes (I have pictures, and no they were not pipes for weed, they were CRACK pipes, and yes I do know what those look like, and no it is not from personal experience.), 4 restaurants, 4 hotels, a few houses and a small space where someone blows a lot of glass for said crack pipes. The town in its entirety could probably be placed inside Kenan Stadium
We stayed in a hotel called Hotel Brasilito, which was right on the beach and colonized by Australians and a very obnoxious rooster that never got the memo that 4am is not day break even in costa rica. So it goes without saying that I got up early.
We spent the days on the beach and the evenings as well because that is really all there is. On Saturday the other UNC girls took a bus in from Tamarindo for the day and we all went up to Playa Conchal. Playa Conchal is heralded in CR as one of the most beautiful beaches here, if not the most beautiful. I don´t agree. It is nice, but I liked both Manuel Antonio and Motezuma much better.
At Playa Conchal; Clarissa, Carmen, Mary, Crystal, and I regressed to our toddler days. We stood at the edge of the GI-normous surf and tried to remain standing, but were continously knocked down, much to our tremendous amusement. Later that day an entire sand dune came out of my scalp and 3 days and 2 good washings later I am still finding small pieces of rock. Other things I managed to accomplish on Playa Conchal were extreme exfoliation (yes I do have abrasions from the ¨Let´s see if the 8-10 foot wave that is breaking on the beach can knock us down again-game¨) and I got my token weird patchy sunburn so I will peel like someone with a skin disease when I return to the US.
The fish in Playa Brasilito was fantastic (I suggest the tacos and my beloved casados) and only the strong should order the cocktail del dia at the Dorado Camaron (or those with many hours to drink it). After a fantastic sunset and wonderful dinner in which we were loudly serenaded by a somewhat off-key trio who performed a song that had no less than 17 verses (and they will wait for a tip and scoff if you don´t give them what they had in mind), we went for a walk on the beach. It turns out that there are snakes on the beach at night. You should take a flashlight if you don´t want to step on them, or not if you just want to be unaware. On the walk back to the hotel a kid that looked no older than 12 offered Crystal or Mary a ride on his bicycle, to where I am not sure.
After that, they headed back to Tamarindo and I headed to bed looking forward to my 4 am date with the rooster. He was right on time, and I briefly considered putting on running shoes and chasing him out of town, but then changed my mind when I thought he may be the town´s only rooster and a vital part of their food plan.
